In a Sunday interview U.S. President Donald Trump said he recognizes that Israeli settlements on the West Bank are making peace talks more difficult .
He also said he’s not sure that Israel and Palestine are committed to making peace.
“I think both sides will have to make hard compromises to reach a peace agreement,” he said.
He elaborated and said that the U.S. peace plan is stalled right now because “We are going to see what goes on. Right now I would say the Palestinians are not looking to make peace. They are not looking to make peace. And I am not necessarily sure that Israel is looking to make peace. So we are just going to have to see what happens.”
In reference to the West Bank settlements and how they’ve complicated discussions, Trump said “Israel has to be very careful with the settlements.”
In an interview Dec. 6, Trump said declaring a recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was the high point of his time in office.
