Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia evacuated “quite a big group of civilians” from Eastern Ghouta in Syria, Reuters reports.
The evacuation would have taken place during the “humanitarian pause” hours that went into effect Tuesday but have done little to slow the fighting.
At a news conference, Putin said Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan had helped “broker” the evacuation.
He did not give any details on the evacuation.
