DUBAI: Yemen’s government condemned the silence of the United Nations and the international community on the abuses committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against citizens in the Taiz province, Saudi state-news agency SPA reported.
Yemeni Minister of Local Administration and chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief in Yemen Abdul Raqib Fatah said that the militia continued indiscriminate shelling on the homes residents in the province.
In a statement quoted by the Yemeni official news agency, the minister said that the silence in the face of the militia’s crimes in a number of Taiz districts is completely contrary to international and humanitarian law.
He called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to take serious and firm positions against all crimes of the Houthi militia.
He added that the international silence on these violations is unacceptable, calling on the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande and all humanitarian organizations to intervene quickly to stop these crimes.
