Russian forces on Syria’s border with Lebanon have been replaced by Syrian troops reports the Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen TV.
On Tuesday, Russian troops near the border area on the outskirts of the town of Qusair withdrew and were replaced by Syrian soldiers. Qusair is a territory controlled by Lebanese Hezbollah militia, Iran alongside Russia has been an ally of Syrian President Assad. Both have provided him with funds and troops so he can reclaim control of Syria.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported Russian troops present on the border on Monday but had no reason as to why they were there or why they had left by Tuesday.
A possible explanation is the numerous Israeli warnings about Iran’s activity in Syria. It is assumed that Israel carried out the strike in Qusair last month that killed and wounded Hezbollah members.
