On Wednesday, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man during a raid in the West Bank, IDF is saying that soldier shot at the Palestinians after he was hit by a rock.
The man that was killed has been identified as 21-year-old Ezz El-Deen al-Tamimi by the Palestinian Information Ministry.
The IDF has released a statement saying that “The soldier responded by firing at the Palestinian, who was wounded and given medical treatment at the scene. He was treated at the scene and he was later declared dead. None of our troops were hurt. The incident will be investigated.”
Ezz El-Deen al-Tamimi was among the men protesting the arrests in the village of Nabi Saleh, Israel’s army is saying that there were more than 10 men that tried to interfere in their raid.
The Palestinian Information Ministry also issued a statement that said, “The execution of Tamimi in cold blood, with three bullets at close range, proves how much our people are in need of international protection against the Israeli war machine.”
Since 1967 war when Israel captured the West Bank, Palestinians have been able to exercise limited self-rule in the area, however, Israel often intervenes and makes laws that negatively affect the lives of Palestinian residents, along with Gaza. Palestinians wish to gain full control of the West Bank and Gaza and make East Jerusalem, their capital for their sovereign state.
Currently, Israel’s military controls most of the West Bank and is there to protect the more than 400,000 Jewish settlers who reside there among 3 million Palestinians.
Peace talks have failed since the U.S’s actions have grown to be more and more blatantly pro-Israel. In recent months, President Trump’s decision to relocate the U.S. embassy to Jersulsam boosted Israel’s claim of the holy city. The day of the opening ceremony also saw Israeli snipers killing more than 62 Palestinians who were protesting in the Great Return Marches, and wounding more than 3000, some who are still in critical care weeks later. Since March, Israel has killed more than 122 Palestinians, including a 21-year-old medic who was shot dead as she was treating wounded Palestinians injured from Israeli shots.
Israel has said that Hamas is to blame for the violence and that Israel’s actions show them protecting their own security.
