Ziad Abuzayyad said that leaders from the Islamic movement sold properties in Jerusalem and Umm Al-Fahm, as well as Silwan to Jewish settlers.
Former minister Abu Ziad told Sama news agency that high ranking members of the Islamic movement gained the trust of citizens in Jerusalem through their frequent visits to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Zaid said that he does not blame the whole of the Islamic movement but only those that were involved in selling off Palestinian land to Jewish settlers in Jerusalem. He also said that some members of the Islamic movement exploited their position in the movement for this specific purpose.
The media has reported the names of some of those involved and accused the high ranking Sheikh Kamal Khatib of orchestrating Palestinian land to be sold to Jewish settlers in Jerusalem.
In turn, Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib accused the United Arab Emirates of buying property in Jerusalem through an unknown Palestinian figure, which served as a reference to the ousted leader of the Fatah movement, MP Mohammad Dahlan.
The charges of Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib, deputy head of the Islamic Movement in the occupied territories were unclear and he did not mention Dahlan specifically, though he alludes to his involvement. He also blamed and accused the UAE.
Former minister Abu Zayd said he was surprised that Dahlan responded to Sheikh al-Khatib accusations because his name was never explicitly mentioned. Zayd believes Dahlan to be free of all notions of involvement in such unlawful deals.
Abu Zayd added if it does actually stand true that Dahlan was involved in such land deals it would be for the good of the Palestinian people because Dahlan would ensure that the lands stay in Palestinian hands at all costs under all circumstances.
