On Tuesday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said: “The treatment of Mesut Ozil was unsatisfactory after the football star quit Germany’s national team.”

Erdogan told reporters in parliament: “Such a supremacist treatment towards a young fellow who has given his everything to the German national team for his religious convictions is inadmissible.”

On Monday night, Erdogan also mentioned that he spoke to Ozil and described his approach as “beyond any form of appreciation”, including that Ozil’s critics “could not stomach” the photo of the football star and Erdogan that incited criticism ahead of the World Cup.
