Syria’s state grains agency has issued an international tender to purchase and import 200,000 tonnes of milling wheat, European traders said on Monday.
The deadline in the tender from Syria’s General Establishment for Cereal Processing and Trade (Hoboob) is also Monday, Oct. 15, traders said.
“I think the tender illustrates a continuing and large import requirement in Syria,” one trader said.
Syria’s wheat crop this year was the smallest in three decades as war and drought cut production by around 30 percent, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization said on Oct. 9.
In its last reported tender on Sept. 19, the Syrian agency bought about 200,000 tonnes of Russian wheat.
