News about the American so-called deal of the century hit the front page of the Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam quoted Jared Kushner, advisor to US President Donald Trump and the main author of the deal, saying that the deal will be declared in June and it will not include anything that would compromise Israel’s security.
The two papers also highlighted Israel’s demolition of several Palestinian homes and structures throughout the West Bank for various reasons, such as the demolition of Saleh Barghouti’s home in the village of Kobar near Ramallah as a punishment or a home and structures in Jerusalem or Area C of the West Bank for construction without permit.
Events marking Prisoner Day was also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida decided to highlight the victory of the Fatah-affiliated bloc at Birzeit University in the student council elections that took place yesterday and President Mahmoud Abbas’ congratulations of the winners.
It said in a headline lower on the page that Fatah regained leadership at Birzeit University whose council was previously held by the Hamas-affiliated Islamic bloc. The final results showed that both Fatah and Hamas secured even seats at 23 each.
The papers also quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayeh calling on world governments to recognize Palestine to salvage the two-state solution.
Al-Ayyam said Hamas rejected a European proposal for a prisoners exchange deal with Israel.
It said that Russia denied transferring the remains of Israeli Mossad agent Eli Cohen from Syria to Israel.
It also quoted Russian reports saying that Israeli warplanes used new kind of missiles to avoid the anti-aircraft S300 Russian missiles deployed in Syria.
