Coronavirus: Dubai fines five shops for lack of face masks, warns 10 others

Dubai’s authorities have fined five shops for failing to force their staff to wear masks in line with coronavirus regulations, announced the emirate’s Department of Economic Development (DED) on Friday.

Dubai allowed shops and malls to reopen in May as it lifted the lockdown put in place to combat the coronavirus pandemic, but the DED has since been carrying out daily inspections, issuing fines and closing stores that violate coronavirus regulations.

In addition to the five shops fined for failing to enforce mask-wearing rules, DED also said ten other shops had been warned for failing to place enough physical distancing stickers.

The majority of the 726 shops inspected in the latest batch were found to be compliant with regulations.

The UAE has experienced a resurgence of the coronavirus this month, with the highest daily increase in cases in a day reported last week.

Authorities have urged the population to abide by the coronavirus regulations and avoid large gatherings.
