Bayern Munich scored five second-half goals as they came from 2-0 down to beat struggling Mainz and go top of the Bundesliga by two points.

Jonathan Burkardt and Alexander Hack struck before half-time to shock the defending champions.

It took just 10 second-half minutes for Bayern to draw level thanks to Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane.

Substitute Niklas Sule also scored before Robert Lewandowski netted twice, the first from the penalty spot.

Bayern, who fell behind for the eighth straight game, replaced RB Leipzig – 1-0 winners at Stuttgart on Saturday – at the top of the table, while Mainz remain second from bottom.

Victory was Bayern’s third in succession and extended their unbeaten run to 12 games.
