Palestine records 822 Covid-19 cases, 27 deaths

RAMALLAH – Palestine today recorded 822 new Covid-19 cases and 27 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh.

She announced that 822 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 27 others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 822 confirmed cases, 419 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and 403 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Jerusalem city was ranked the fist with 185 new cases, followed by Ramallah and al-Bireh district (55), Hebron district (35), Nablus (33), Tulkarm (26), Jenin (19), Bethlehem (18), Salfit (16), Jerusalem suburbs (15), Qalqilia (9), Tubas (5) and Jericho & the Jordan Valley (3).         

The death cases, Al-Kaileh added, included 17 death cases in the West Bank and ten others in the Gaza Strip.

The West Bank deaths were distributed as follows: Jenin (6), Jerusalem city (5), Hebron (2), Qalqilia (2), Salit (1) and Nablus (1).

She added that 1,646 Covid-19 patients recovered in the occupied territories; 946 recovery cases in the West Bank and 700 others in the Gaza Strip.

Jerusalem city was ranked the first among West Bank districts with 245 recovery cases, followed by Nablus district (174), Ramallah and al-Bireh (162), Jerusalem suburbs (97), Tulkarm (76), Hebron (54), Tubas (49), Jenin (41), Salfit (22), Qalqilia (14) and Jericho & the Jordan Valley (12).     

Al-Kaileh added that 87 Covid-19 patients are still being hospitalized in intensive care units, including 20 who are connected to ventilators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 170,210.

Out of the 170,210 cases, 103,847 are recorded in the West Bank, 47,295 in the Gaza Strip and 19,068 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 155,420, and the death toll reached 1,848, leaving a total of 12,942 active cases.

Recoveries account for 91.3 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 7.6 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
