Sudan security forces fire tear gas at protesters near presidential palace

Khartoum – Sudanese security forces fired tear gas on Saturday at a crowd of protesters who had gathered near the presidential palace in the capital Khartoum, an AFP correspondent said.

Thousands of protesters converged close to the palace, the headquarters of the military government in control since General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan seized power on October 25.

Protesters took to the streets of Khartoum and its suburbs on Saturday to demonstrate against the military coup, despite cuts to phone lines and the internet, witnesses said.

They also marched on the streets of Madani, a town around 150 kilometers (more than 90 miles) south of Khartoum.
